The first indication of Maa Durga’s forthcoming homecoming has today come to the fore. It’s almost always the spate of advertisements in newspapers – some running full-page like those of the footwear brands – that marks the beginning of the autumn festivals.
If you argue the conditions are not ripe this year for enjoying festivals, you’ll not be off the mark. Things are indeed harsh, the prices of commodities scaling new highs even as money in your pocket is drying up before you’ve met half of your needs you did awhile back at the same expense.
Yet Durga Puja is that occasion that many await with great expectation. It’s now that commerce peaks. It’s now that thousands of artisans, craftspeople, small merchants, and the like expect to make some money trading their wares, their skill, and above all their hard labor they had put up for this once-a-year grand festival.
