Themed puja

Closed to where I stay is the Santoshpur Pallimangal Samity’s puja beside Nilpukur, the largest lake in Survey Park area. The preparation here is going on for more than a month, and now it is almost complete except the Durga protima, which is come shortly.

The Pallimangal pujs is presumably a depiction of village life in Bengal after the Nabarasa by Bharat Muni. See the images below.

The brain behind the theme being put into action is that of graphic designer Anirban Das, who lives in Santoshpur. Anirban is the designer for 4 more pujas, 2 in Santoshpur and the other 2 in Alipore.

He has designed the Alipore Sarbojanin’s puja after Jibanananda Das’ immortal collection of poems titled Rupasi Bangla. Anirban is a bunch of talent. Apart from graphic designing he is also an Odissi exponent.

The good thing about him is that he won’t stop from paying from his pocket if need be to have a theme in place. For the Pallimangal puja he is apparently paying about Rs.20,000 himself since the cost has overshot the organiser’s budget of Rs.2 lakhs.
